The Long run

What is the most important run of marathon training?  Is it the long run.  While it very important, all parts of a good training plan matter.  Its not just get in a long run in every week.  

Some factors that are important are weekly mileage, speed work, strength training, tempo runs.  

Being sure you get a decent amount of weekly miles in, at an easy pace to build up your aerobic system is vital to your training for any race distance.   

The long will build up the endurance you need to complete marathons or half marathons.  Yes, I believe the whole plan is important, but if you need to prioritize runs to do personal or work, I would get the long run in.  Work on making it to finish first, then work on that PR!  

Ideally you get to get in all your runs and strength/mobility workouts and have time to sleep/recover properly.  But its not a perfect world.  Sometimes, I know this is hard to believe, but running isn't always the highest priority in life.  A coach can help you manage your running schedule, in those tough times.  In tough times that can be huge when your training for a marathon.  Get a coach you can count on!
